Everton boss David Moyes has eased concerns about Tim Cahill's fitness after the Socceroo limped out of the Toffees 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Wednesday.
Cahill, who had earlier opened the scoring in the contest with a lovely 61st minute header, had to be substituted on 86 minutes after picking up a foot injury.
The 29-year-old Socceroo went off to a rousing standing ovation from the Everton fans who showed their appreciation and concern for the Australian star.
And the injury wouldn't only have concerned Everton fans, but Socceroos fans too with the crucial World Cup qualifier against Japan in Yokohama just a few weeks away.
But the Toffees gaffer eased those concerns when he admitted after the game it was only a precautionary measure for his in-form makeshift striker, who was sidelined for six months last year with a foot problem.
"Tim doesn't look bad," said Moyes. "I think he's just taken a kick on his foot. He was fatigued anyway so it was right that we took him off."

Vidosic's Danish Move Fails

Dario Vidosic's proposed move away from FC Nürnberg seems to have failed, with Danish Superliga club Esbjerg fB unlikely to offer the Australian a contract.
The 21-year-old midfielder had spent a week on trial at Esbjerg earlier this month, as he seeks a move away from 2.Bundesliga club Nürnberg where he has only made a handful of appearances since joining in March 2007 from Queensland Roar.
And while initial reports suggested Vidosic had impressed the Danish club during his trial, Esbjerg confirmed yesterday they are likely to pursue other options.
Esbjerg sports director Niels Erik Søndergaard said, "No, it is not completely closed yet, but I am not counting on something happening with Dario.
"We have said that we are pleased with what we have now but we will continue to look to strengthen our offence and that is why there is still some doubt in the air."
It is believed Esbjerg, who are battling to avoid relegation from the Danish top flight this season, are more interested in acquiring a striker rather than a midfielder and this worked against Vidosic.

Jets Bid To Lure Home Sterj

Socceroo Mile Sterjovski is being linked with a return home to Australia with Newcastle Jets in the hunt for the sidelined Derby star.
According to the Newcastle Herald, the Jets are in talks with the 29-year-old who has frustratingly made just five appearances for the Rams this season.
It is believed Newcastle are willing to offer Sterjovski the $350,000 a season which was intended for marquee Joel Griffiths, who appears to be heading to China.
Sterjovski still has 18 months remaining on his Derby contract so the Jets are likely to seek a loan deal with the Rams.
Newcastle owner Con Constantine told the Herald: "I spent half of Australia Day on the phone. There is something big in the wind.
"I want to make sure we get the signature before I say any more. We should know in the next 24 hours."
The Herald believes that player is Wollongong-born Sterjovski who could return to his homeland after eight years in Europe with stints in France, Switzerland, Turkey and England.

Chippers Doubt For Japan Game

Socceroo Scott Chipperfield admits he will be touch-and-go for Australia's upcoming World Cup qualifier against Japan - but he desperately wants to be fit in time.
The 33-year-old Australian international is believed to have picked up a knock on a scar, from a previous operation on his heel, whilst playing in a friendly for his Swiss club FC Basel two weeks ago.
Chipperfield hasn't been able to train since because of the pain and just last week he missed out on a move to German club Hertha Berlin after failing a medical.
Speaking on the official FC Basel website from a club training camp in Spain, Chipperfield explained the extent of the problem.
"I think in the remaining days here in Spain I shall train again with the team and the coaches and be fit again on February 7 or the week later against Grasshoppers," Chipperfield said.
Chipperfield's comment suggests he remains a doubt for the Japan match as Basel's match against Grasshoppers is scheduled to take place on February 15, four days after Australia's match in Yokohama.
But Socceroos fans can be enthused by comments from Chipperfield's club boss Christian Gross in a Swiss newspaper, after he claimed the lone goalscorer in Uzbekistan was desperate to be fit to play in Yokohama and would do all he could to be so.

The 29-year-old Australian international had to limp from the field and sit out the dying moments of the FA Cup fourth-round match after a reckless challenge by Sunderland's Andy Reid.
After the match, Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce expressed his fears at potentially losing Grella for another long period of time after hamstring and calf problems had limited the Australian to just seven appearances this campaign for Rovers.
But tests on Grella's knee have revealed the problem was just bruising and the Socceroo could be in contention for Rovers visit of Bolton on Wednesday in the Premier League.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp may hand Mark Viduka's ailing career a lifeline with reports linking the Australian striker with a loan move to White Hart Lane.
According to The Sunday People, Redknapp is said to be interested in a surprise loan deal for the big Australian forward until the end of the season.
The move would come after Tottenham lost out in their chase for Craig Bellamy and seem consigned to failure in the race for Roque Santa Cruz.
The move would rescue Viduka from his time at St James' Park which seems to be coming to an end with his current two-year contract set to expire at season's end and Newcastle highly unlikely to exercise a third-year option on the deal.

Vince Grella's frustrating start to his Blackburn career has continued after he suffered a late injury blow in Rovers' 0-0 FA Cup draw at Sunderland on Saturday.
Grella, making just his seventh appearance for Rovers after an injured-ravaged to start to life at Ewood Park, was on the wrong end of a bad Andy Reid tackle in the dying moments of the fourth-round FA Cup clash.
Reid slid into Grella in a strong tackle in the centre of the park which forced the Socceroo to limp off the field and sit out the final minutes of the match.
And while the severity of the blow is not clear at this stage, Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce is crossing his fingers in the hope the injury isn't serious.
The Rovers gaffer, who was disappointed with Reid's tackle, told Sky Sports after the game, "Vince, unfortunately, had to come off injured after a very late challenge late on in the game, which the referee missed, which was very disappointing.
"What is more disappointing is that Vince was unable to carry on and we don't know the extent of that damage.

The 33-year-old Australian international had been in Berlin over the last few days, with a view to securing a six-month loan deal with Hertha but a foot injury has put an end to those hopes.
The Bundesliga club released a statement on their official website today saying: "Hertha will not be signing the player Scott Chipperfield."
The statement went onto reveal Hertha's reasons: "After an in-depth examination of his current injury, which has meant the player can not train, it can not be gauged at this time when Scott Chipperfield could start training or play his first game for Hertha."
Chipperfield frustratingly sustained the foot injury last week whilst playing a friendly for his Swiss club.
Unfortunately the problem has persisted and ultimately ended his hopes of securing a deal with Hertha, currently third in the Bundesliga.

Blackburn's Australian midfielder Vince Grella claims he is simply happy just to be back playing football after an injury-riddled start to his career in England.
Grella, who moved to Ewood Park in August in a £4million deal from Torino, has had a difficult start to life at Blackburn with a curse of injuries reducing him to just six appearances so far for Rovers.
But having recovered from his latest injury, Grella has played a part in Blackburn's last two fixtures, an FA Cup victory over non-league Blyth Spartans and a 3-0 Premier League thrashing of fellow relegation battlers Newcastle.
In particular, his 30 minute cameo appearance off the bench in the Newcastle game would have impressed the Ewood Park faithful, as the 29-year-old Australian international looked assured and comfortable in midfield and played a number of neat passes around the field.
Grella spoke to the Lancashire Telegraph this week and admitted things haven't been easy saying, “I am just happy to be on the pitch. It has been a very awkward start to my career but I think I can turn it around.
“I have worked probably harder in the last four months than I have in my whole career before. Personal pride has been at stake and I was doing everything I could to get fit again.
“I have had great support from the club, from the chairman to the medical staff to the coaching staff and it feels great to be back out there again.”
And while Grella's performance against Newcastle puts him in good stead for a place in the Rovers team for the upcoming FA Cup tie at Sunderland on Saturday, the Australian has admitted he still isn't back to full fitness.
“I am not 100 per cent yet. Between 75 per cent and getting 100 per cent you can only get there by matches and being involved on a Saturday," Grella remarked.
Nonetheless, after a frustrating beginning to his Blackburn career Grella knows he needs to be patient and added, “It does become a mental thing when you have been injured.
“The last few months has felt like six years. Trying to settle in my family in a new country and not being able to play has made me very frustrated.
“It has been a terrible start but I will turn it around. I am happy to be at Blackburn,” he concluded.

Bresh's Brace For Palermo

Socceroo Mark Bresciano gave Palermo two more reasons to keep him in Sicily after he scored a double in the 2-0 win at Sampdoria on Sunday.
The Socceroo was the hero for Palermo with his two goals coming either side of half-time as the Rosanero claimed just their second away victory of the Serie A season to continue their European challenge.
Barely a fortnight ago, Palermo’s Director of Sport Walter Sabatini admitted on Italian radio Bresciano could be offloaded during the January transfer window.
And although the 28-year-old Australian’s three goals in two games has put him firmely in the shop window, the Sicilian club may re-think the sale.
Bresciano’s opener came against the run of play on 45 minutes after Sampdoria began well. On a Palermo counter-attack, Federico Balzaretti lobbed a ball to the back post where the Australian international did well to nod home from close range.
The Socceroos star doubled Palermo’s advantage not long after the break with another simple finish from close range. Edinson Cavani had done well inside the penalty area to whip a low pass across the box which found Bresciano at the back post and the Australian calmly put the ball in the back of the net.
Bresciano, playing in a more advanced role than usual in the absence of injured forward Fabrizio Miccoli, had positioned himself well on both occasions for the goals despite the strikes both being simple finishes.
In the final half hour of the match, Sampdoria pushed players forward as they desperately searched for a reply but Paolo Sammarco and Gianpaolo Pazzini both couldn’t convert good opportunities for the hosts.
In the end it was a great day for Bresciano and Palermo, who whilst staying put in ninth in the league, maintain the pressure on those above them in the race of a Europa League spot.
Socceroo Mark Bresciano gave Palermo two more reasons to keep him in Sicily after he scored a double in the 2-0 win at Sampdoria on Sunday.
The Socceroo was the hero for Palermo with his two goals coming either side of half-time as the Rosanero claimed just their second away victory of the Serie A season to continue their European challenge.
Barely a fortnight ago, Palermo’s Director of Sport Walter Sabatini admitted on Italian radio Bresciano could be offloaded during the January transfer window.
And although the 28-year-old Australian’s three goals in two games has put him firmely in the shop window, the Sicilian club may re-think the sale.
Bresciano’s opener came against the run of play on 45 minutes after Sampdoria began well. On a Palermo counter-attack, Federico Balzaretti lobbed a ball to the back post where the Australian international did well to nod home from close range.
The Socceroos star doubled Palermo’s advantage not long after the break with another simple finish from close range. Edinson Cavani had done well inside the penalty area to whip a low pass across the box which found Bresciano at the back post and the Australian calmly put the ball in the back of the net.
Bresciano, playing in a more advanced role than usual in the absence of injured forward Fabrizio Miccoli, had positioned himself well on both occasions for the goals despite the strikes both being simple finishes.
In the final half hour of the match, Sampdoria pushed players forward as they desperately searched for a reply but Paolo Sammarco and Gianpaolo Pazzini both couldn’t convert good opportunities for the hosts.
In the end it was a great day for Bresciano and Palermo, who whilst staying put in ninth in the league, maintain the pressure on those above them in the race of a Europa League spot.

Sterj Feeling Miles Better

Socceroo Mile Sterjovski has admitted his excitement at a fresh start at Derby County following a change of manager.
Sterjovski only made 15 appearances in a year at the club under previous manager Paul Jewell, but with new boss Nigel Clough ready to lead the Rams for the first time this weekend, the Australian international has claimed he is excited by the change of leadership.
The 29-year-old told the Evening Telegraph, "It has been frustrating and I honestly didn't know what was going on."
After joining Derby from Genclerbirligi OFTAS in January 2008, Sterjovski featured regularly under Jewell, making a dozen appearances as the team was relegated from the Premier League last season.
But the former Lille and FC Basel man's opportunities were vastly reduced this season having played just three times this term under Jewell. Sterjovski's lack of first-team action also led to suggestions he may leave Pride Park to return to the Hyundai A-League.
Late in December though, Jewell resigned from his post at Pride Park as the club struggled in the Championship. Derby moved to appoint Nigel Clough as their new manager and his arrival has excited Sterjovski.
"Now I am glad there is a new manager. It's a new start for me and, hopefully, I will get more chances," said Sterjovski.
"I feel like I have unfinished business at Derby."
Indeed, following the announcement of Clough's appointment, Sterjovski won a rare starting place for Derby, as they stunned Manchester United 1-0 in the Carling Cup. And while Clough wasn't officially in charge that day, Sterjovski's performance would have impressed in the incoming gaffer.
The rejuvenated Aussie added, "It has been a hard time for me but things have changed now and it's a good change."
"It's early days yet but everyone is positive and determined to get a place in the team. Everyone knows they have the chance to play now and everyone is working hard."
Sterjovski concluded, "The more match time myself and the other members of the squad get, the fitter we will become and the better it will be for everyone."
And the Australian could get an opportunity to get some more match time under his belt this Saturday, as Derby entertain QPR in the Championship.

Fed's Bid To Hold Onto The Gloves

Reading's Aussie shot-stopper Adam Federici looks likely to retain his place in goals for this weekend at least, despite regular Marcus Hahnemann returning to training.
Federici has deputised at Reading in the absence of Hahnemann, who injured a calf in early December against Blackpool in the Championship.
And the 23 year old Australian has done well during his opportunity, having conceded just three goals in five league games as the Royals moved up into second place on the Championship table with 11 points from the fixtures.
Hahnemann though has been back on the track this week at Madejski Stadium and is believed to be ready to return for the Royals.
But it seems unlikely Reading boss Steve Coppell will bring Hahnemann straight back into the Royals starting XI, with Federici performing more than adequately in the 36 year old American's absence.
Federici spoke to the Evening Post and admitted: “Obviously if I was dropped I wouldn’t be happy, but it’s not about me. It’s about the team winning.
“Marcus is training properly now and looking good again. I don’t expect anything. You can’t expect to play every week.
“If the gaffer thinks Marcus playing improves our chances of winning then it’s fine by me. It is diplomatic, but I understand the way football is."
He added: “It is obviously a hard decision because he’s a fantastic goalkeeper. He’s been here for so long and has been fantastic for the club.
“I am 23 years old, and he has been playing forever. I have heard about possession being nine-tenths of the law, but we’ll see."
Indeed, Federici has done his chances no harm with his recent performances and he cheekily added he would probably start this Saturday against Swansea City in the Championship, saying: "I am pretty sure I’m playing.”

LUCAS Neill could be on the verge of a move to Newcastle United after the Magpies made an enquiry about a potential transfer for the current West Ham skipper.
The 30-year-old Australian international will be out of contract with the Hammers at the end of the season and as a result has been the subject of many transfer rumours.
But injury-ravaged Newcastle are ready to enter the transfer market and have written to West Ham and the Socceroo's agent to ask about buying Neill.
Neill would be an ideal addition for the relegation-threatened club, as injured current first-choice right-back Habib Beye is out of action for an estimated 10 weeks.
The transfer might happen swiftly too, with Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear admitting on Wednesday: "We've made two serious offers for decent money.
"When I say decent money, two £4m offers for two players. They're considering them now. We made the bids today."
Kinnear later added with regards to Neill: "We have spoken to his agent and it is ongoing at the moment, we are just waiting to see. We could get an answer at any time."

Porter Worry For Gold Coast

Gold Coast United target Joel Porter will be out for weeks after his English club revealed the Australian is battling a painful Achilles problem that has left him unable to train.
Porter, who has scored 13 goals in all competitions for League One Hartlepool United this season, has been heavily linked with a deal with the new A-League franchise on the Gold Coast.
But his fantastic season may have hit a wall after the hitman was forced out of training since New Year aftr suffering tendinitis in his Achilles tendon.
"Since we've played Stoke (on January 3) Joel's not trained which is quite a concern," Hartlepool manager Chris Turner told BBC Tees.
"It's an injury that needs rest. The more you work them the worse they get. The physios are doing their best."
The 30-year-old Australian may now be facing an extended stay on the sidelines as battles back to full fitness again.
