Brendon Santalab opened his account for struggling Chengdu Blades by grabbing the winner in a crucial 2-1 victory over Changchun Yatai in the Chinese Super League.

The 26-year-old attacker, who left North Queensland Fury to link up with the Chinese club, won and converted an 80th minute penalty for Chengdu, who move away from the drop zone and up to 13th after the win.

Rodrigues had opened the scoring for Chengdu early in the contest before Samuel Caballero equalised from a corner for Changchun on 71 minutes.

But Santalab drove forward on a determined run on 78 minutes and was brought down inside the box by Yan Feng to win the decisive penalty.

The Australian dusted himself off and stepped up to coolly slot the spotkick to Changchun stopper Zong Lei's right for the winner.

Elsewhere in the CSL, Mark Milligan played a full game for Shanghai Shenhua as they lost to new leaders Shandong Luneng 1-0, while Joel Griffiths was a substitute as Beijing Guoan fell to 2nd with a costly 1-0 loss at improving Jiangsu Sainty.

In Japan's J.League, Eddy Bosnar was back in the JEF United Chiba side helping the relegation embattled club to a 1-1 draw at Omiya Ardija.

In Korea's K-League, Antun Kovacic's Ulsan Horang lost 2-1 at home to Jeju United.
