Josh Flies Home To Oz For Op

Romanian-based Aussie Josh Mitchell has ended his season with Universitatea Craiova to return to Australia to have surgery on a troublesome thigh injury.

The 24-year-old former Newcastle United defender has not played for the Romanian club since February because of the complaint.

Mitchell had been a regular in the Craiova first-team prior to the injury interruption but since February he has frustratingly been ruled out of action as the thigh problem has lingered despite various treatments being applied to the complaint.

Now Mitchell and Craiova have decided to cut their losses with the Australian returning to his homeland to have surgery on the adductor muscle in his left thigh.

It is believed one of the group of tendons in Mitchell's thigh are shorter than the rest and he needs to go under the knife to correct the problem.

Mitchell is expected to be out of action for two and a half to three months.

Universitatea Craiova, who also enjoy the services of fellow Australians Spase Dilevski, Joshua Rose and Michael Baird, are pushing for a Europa League spot in the Romanian Liga I at the moment.
