Joel Puts His Side On Top

as seen on au.fourfourtwo.com

Joel Griffiths scored an outrageous lob to help Beijing Guoan move two points clear on top in the Chinese Super League after 2-1 win over Dalian Shide on Thursday.

The on-loan Newcastle Jets forward attempted an audacious lob over Dalian keeper Sun Shoubo and the ball nestled into the back of the net to give Guoan a 16th minute lead.

Tao Wei went close to doubling Guoan's advantage twice in the second-half before Dalian responded with a super headed equaliser from Zambian striker James Chamanga on 70 minutes.

Beijing brought Ryan Griffiths on as a substitute on 76 minutes as they chased the elusive winner before Li Jiang chested the ball in from close-range for the winner.

Late on Ryan Griffiths was brought down crudely by Chilean defender Adan Vergara before the Dalian man started a melee and promptly got his marching orders.

The result moves Guoan two points clear of champions Shandong Luneng, who drew 0-0 with Jiangsu Sainty.

Elsewhere, Matt McKay almost opened his goalscoring account for Changchun Yatai with a second-half volley as they defeated Hangzhou Lucheng 2-0. Changchun are now third.

Meanwhile, Mark Milligan played a part as Shanghai Shenhua defeated bottom-club Chongqing Lifan 3-1 to move into 5th, while Mark Bridge wasn't involved as Tianjin Teda drew 0-0 with Henan Construction.
