Carney Ban Hits First-Team Hope

David Carney’s hopes of making an impression at new club FC Twente have been hit hard after copping a hefty ban for a red card picked up whilst playing for the club’s reserves side.

The 25-year-old Australian, who was selected as part of Pim Verbeek's squad for the upcoming Netherlands and Oman matches, will be unavailable for Twente's next three league matches.

Carney, who only joined the Dutch club from Sheffield United early last month, was sent off in Twente's reserves side's 4-1 victory over Jong NEC Nijmegen on Monday.

The former Sydney FC man actually received a four-match ban, but one match from the punishment will be conditionally suspended.

Carney has made two brief Eredivisie appearances and played a full game in the KNVB Cup for the seniors since joining Twente.
