Dutch Match Will Be Like A Holiday

EXCLUSIVE: FC Nurnberg's Australian Dario Vidosic admits jetting home for the latest Socceroos get-together is ‘like a little holiday’ after his German club’s sluggish start to the new Bundesliga campaign.

The 22-year-old has impressed in five Bundesliga starts this term for Nurnberg, but the newly promoted club are adjusting to life in the top flight slowly as they sit second-last with just one win so far this campaign.

Speaking to FourFourTwo before boarding the long flight from Frankfurt-am-Main to Sydney ahead of the upcoming Socceroos games with the Netherlands and Oman, Vidosic acknowledged the prospect of a brief visit home excited him.

"We get to play against one of the top sides in the world. And especially to play in Australia in front of the home crowd it'll be an amazing experience," Vidosic revealed.

"It's almost like a little holiday, but even though we're going home we're going to be very serious for the national team. But it is always good to go back to Australia, no matter what the circumstances."

And Vidosic is also looking forward to an opportunity to impress Socceroos boss Pim Verbeek, having made his international debut as a late substitute in the 2-1 win over Japan in June.

The ex-Brisbane Roar forward has come into Verbeek's calculations after good form in Germany and considering Australia's shortage of attacking options.

But back in Germany, Vidosic's club Nurnberg have begun the campaign slowly although the Australian insists their goal for the season is simply survival.

Nurnberg's latest Bundesliga setback was a 4-0 defeat at high-flying Leverkusen on Saturday, but the Australian believes with a bit of luck the Bavarian club will get back on track.

"Now the luck is just not on our side. The first two goals on Saturday, one's a free-kick in the second minute and the second is a penalty," he said.

"So I think that's a bit disheartening and full credit also to Leverkusen who are a great team."

Nevertheless, Vidosic insists the Nurnberg camp are remaining positive despite their troubles and he admits he'd love to help the team by hitting the back of the net soon.

He added: "I'd like to get on the scoresheet. I've had a few chances here and there, against Stuttgart and I had one or two maybe on Saturday, but I'm just trying to play good and help the team out."

After the international break, Vidosic may have a good chance to do so, when Nurnberg face bottom-club Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga.
